Help Alex Get Top Surgery
Donation protected
Good morning! My name is Donna, and I'm fundraising for my son, Alex.
Alex is a 17-year-old AFAB trans boy who loves musical theatre and video games. He came out as trans a year and a half ago. He immediately started to transition socially, and we got the ball rolling on his eventual medical transition, as well. He sees a therapist who specializes in gender dysphoria every two weeks, and recently began testosterone therapy.
Unfortunately, we live in Alabama. The recent passage of a bill called SB184, intended to criminalize providing gender-confirming healthcare to minors, directly and adversely impacts Alex's immediate future.
We are joining other local families, as well as activists all over the US, in fighting this barbaric law. But the threat of having his medical care withdrawn has triggered Alex's dysphoria in new ways. His anxiety levels have spiked, and I'm worried about his well-being.
Top surgery has always been a priority for Alex. Because of his build, binding has never worked well for him, and these recent events have only thrown into sharp relief just how vital this procedure will be to his survival. So we're planning for sooner rather than later.
Alex has full parental consent and support, and has been cleared mentally, emotionally, and physically for surgery. I will have to travel out of state with him for a period of time while my husband remains at home with our other child, which increases the associated costs. But no child should have to live in a body that doesn't feel like his, so we're determined to make it happen.
With your help, we can.
Thank you.
