Here is our story...my name is Leslie Helms and I would like you to learn about our cause.....It begins with my best friend, Eileen McNamara. Eileen is a dynamic person and the greatest friend anyone could ask for!
A few short years after assisting her younger sister through her battle with pancreatic cancer- which ultimately took her life-Eileen was faced with a battle of her own. In December of 2014, Eileen was diagnosed with breast cancer, but due to her proactive yearly mammograms, it was found at a very early stage. Eileen is a fighter and now, A SURVIVOR!! This is all very ironic because Eileen cares for terminally ill people, some who suffer with similar illnesses, at Hospice of Monroe, North Carolina. She often speaks of how rewarding it is to give comfort to patients and their families that are going thru such difficult times!
The story is not over.....Just as life seemed to be getting back on track, Eileen has just been handed another dose of bad news....her boyfriend of 10 years (now fiancé) was just diagnosed with stage 3 throat cancer- he will soon begin radical chemo and radiation with a feeding tube... As if that wasn't bad enough, the company he works for is closing its doors at the end of this month!! This means that this family is losing a large income and with the extra cost of caring for Bryan, they are at risk of losing everything!
Please find it in your hearts to help this family and with Bryan's aspirations to put up a small shop at home where he can work on small engines after his recovery.... He has a strong will to survive and succeed!!
