My niece, Kaitlyn went to the Dr for a MINOR procedure to have an ingrown toenail removed on 4/29. She started an antibiotic six days prior for the infected toenail. Since then she has had a MAJOR reaction to the antibiotic. This reaction has caused her to be diagnosed with a rare and serious disorder called, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. She was admitted to Huguley Hospital in Burleson on Thurs 5/7. Symptoms worsened and she needed to be transferred to the burn unit at Parkland Hospital in Dallas due to the sores that now covered her body from head to toe. Kaitlyn waited several days before Parkland had a bed open and was taken by ambulance the night of Sat 5/9. While at Parkland she has undergone numerous tests, X-rays, upper GI’s, a catheter and an EKG. Due to the severe pain with the sores not just external, but internal as well, she is unable to swallow solids or liquids. They have placed a feeding tube in to give her the much needed nutrients that she needs to fight this. (Due to COVID-19, my niece cannot have anyone with her during this uncertain and scary time in her life. Her parents get updates via FaceTime from the staff at the hospital)
At the moment there is no end in sight to her stay at Parkland and is just doing one day at a time. An extreme amount of medical bills are piling up on my sister and I want to help her in anyway I can to help ease the burden of these costs. I would appreciate any amount that you could give to lighten the load for her! Please pray for Kaitlyn’s recovery and her spirits to be lifted while she is away from all of her family and friends!
