Chasing My Dreams

My name is Samuel Obed Arias and I am a Senior at Doulos Discovery School. I will be graduating from Doulos Discovery School in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic, where I have studied for the past 15 years. I am a person that is responsible, caring and serving others. I have served God since a young age and I am fortunate that I grew up in a Christian home with God-fearing parents instilling these same values in me. Through the years I have developed a beautiful relationship with God. From a young age, I have always had a passion for worship. I am also very passionate about the sport of Basketball, and I have always dreamed of playing at the university level in the United States. To accomplish this goal, I have worked extremely hard during my high school years where I have spent countless hours working with my coaches and teammates to improve my performance on the court as a player, leader, and teammate. Through all of this work, I have also maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout my high school years.

This year, God has blessed me with an opportunity to play basketball in the United States and take a step toward realizing my dream.

I was offered a scholarship to play at Christian Life Center Academy (CLCA) in Kingwood, Texas. This is an amazing opportunity for me to develop my skills and show college coaches what I can do on the court and in the classroom. If I can show my skills off at this high school, I will have a better opportunity to receive scholarships that will benefit me and help me find the right college to pursue my dream. If I receive a full-ride scholarship, that will change my future in many ways, as I will get to study my dream career and play college basketball as well. The reason why I want to take this opportunity is because I know God will use me in many ways to impact other people's lives. This is a great opportunity for me to make a change and shine light in dark places.

The yearly tuition for CLCA is $30,000. The scholarship I received to attend for one year will cover $16,000. My family and will have to pay a $14,000 difference during the year I spend there. This means we need to come up with around $1,400 a month to cover my time as a student at CLCA.
