It is with deep regret to inform that Officer John James WIlding, a 15 month member of the Scranton Pa police department, died at 0128 hours 12 July 2015 as a result of injuries suffered in the line of duty on on 11 July 2015.
At approximately 0330 hours on July 11, 2015 Officer John Wilding was one of several Scranton Police Officers that responded to an armed robbery attempt in West Scranton. Officers encountered a suspect vehicle occupied by three males and attempted to initiate a felony traffic stop on this vehicle. The vehicle failed to yield which resulted in a brief vehicle pursuit followed by a foot pursuit involving the three male suspects. While actively pursuing one of the fleeing males Officer Wilding suffered severe head traulma which ultimately resulted in his death at 0128 hours this morning. The three suspects have been apprehended and are facing criminal prosecution. Officer John James Wilding is survived by his wife and two children ages three and seven.
