We never imagined we would be in a position where we’d need to ask for help like this, but here we are — holding onto hope and asking for support to help us become parents.

I was born with VATER syndrome, which took a lot from me, my arm most obviously affected but also took my early childhood from me with doctor appointments and hospital stays. Unfortunately later in life I also found out it took the most important thing from me, my ability to carry children, being told I had a hypoplastic uterus killed me. I actually found out during IVF this was a misdiagnosis and I was born without one. Our only path to having a child is through surrogacy with one of our 3 frozen embryos babies. Over the past 14 months, we have poured everything we have into IVF, spending $35,000 and enduring unsuccessful rounds. We were finally blessed with one successful cycle, resulting in three precious embryos — something we are incredibly grateful for.

Unfortunately, our journey has taken another unexpected turn. Recently, Tyler suffered a serious work-related back injury that required urgent spinal surgery. Every dollar we had saved toward surrogacy had to go toward his medical care and recovery. While we are so thankful he is healing, it has left us emotionally and financially devastated.

We are now at the stage where we are organising the legal and psychological requirements necessary to proceed with a surrogacy transfer. The reality of the costs has been overwhelming. Between two lawyers and mandatory psychological assessments, the next step alone will cost approximately $15,000 — an amount that simply isn’t achievable, even while working all the overtime shifts.

We are incredibly fortunate to have a beautiful friend who has selflessly offered to be our surrogate, and we are hoping to move forward with a transfer next year. Time, however, is not on our side, and without help, this dream may slip further away.
