Roger Roach's Kidney Transplant
Donation protected
After serving and helping others in need for over 24 years, my dad, Roger Roach, had to retire from the Terrell Fire Department a few years ago due to medical complications. He has been a diabetic for many years, but he started having kidney failure a few years back. Dad kept trying to live a normal life the best he could with his complications, but one year ago his life compelety changed! He was sent to Baylor hospital for a severe infection, but that is when he was told his kidneys would not allow him to live without dialysis. He immediately started his treatments 3 days a week at a dialysis center. Dad was starting to get adjusted to his new way of living, but one month later he was having open heart surgery. Dad had a difficult time recuperating health wise, but he was determined to start feeling better. If you know my dad, you know he makes friends everywhere he goes. He soon knew peoples' names at the dialysis center, and he was able to make the most of the hours that he spent while he took his treatments.
This past January, Dad and Mary Kay learned that they could give him his dialysis treatments at home and not have to leave the house when the weather was bad. They took classes together, and now Mary Kay gives Dad his treatments at home 5 days a week. This is working out, but now they have discovered a way for Dad to stop having to take dialysis treatments altogether which is very exciting!
Dad has started the medical testing to see if he qualifies for a kidney transplant. It will be very costly upfront, and they have told him that the medicines that he will have to take for the rest of his life will be costly, too. If you know Dad and Mary Kay, you know what kind loving people they both are. Mary Kay is donating her kidney so another person will be saved so that my dad will receive a new kidney, and have his life and health back again!
Thank you so much for your thoughts, prayers, and any donations for my dad!
