Bryson James Jones was born on April 28th to my big sister and her husband. He was diagnosed with a large VSD and craniosynostosis. Both of these conditions have been linked as birth defects associated with a drug that my sister took during pregnancy called Zofran. It was prescribed to her during her first trimester and she would lik to take this opportnuity to not only raise money for Bryson's surgeries, but also prevent other pregnant women from taking this drug. The VSD is a hole in heart between the left and right ventricles that creates the oxygenated blood to mix with the deoxygenated blood. They classify them as small medium and large and they have classified his as large. The small and medium holes have a decent chance of closing on their own but the large holes are unlikely to close on their own. The cardiologist monitors him until his symptoms get bad enough to require the surgery. If they do not get too bad they try to wait until he is 1 year to perform the surgery. He takes a medicine twice a day to help control his symptoms ( it makes him pee a lot so that fluid doesn't build up causing congestive heart failure in turn causing him to have the surgery sooner). Bryson was sent to the ER on one occasion due to his heavy breathing. The cardiologist upped his dosage of his medicine and he has been doing well since then. Initially the doctor pretty much told them they were going to have the surgery sooner and won't be able to make it to a year, however he's recently been doing very well and the cardiologist seems more optimistic. The craniosynostosis is the premature fusing of the plates in his skull. The plates need to be open so that they can move as his brain grows then they normally close once it finishes growing. His plates have fused together not leaving room for his brain to grow. The neurosurgeon wants to do the surgery within a month because it can be very dangerous if not taken care of and in his case his head is already becoming misshapen. The surgery requires a neurosurgeon and plastic surgeon in the operating room. The plastic surgeon that the neurosurgeon works with is not in network with their insurance and apparently he is the only one in the area that specializes in this surgery. With my sister being a stay at home mom to monitor his condition, and all of the time Cory has had to take off work, the medical bills are becoming too much. We would appreciate any small donation and/or prayers sent our way!
