Megan Beach Fund

One of our own, George Washington alumni Stacey Donaldson Beach, Class of ‘70, is facing a very difficult time. On Friday January 15, 2016 her youngest daughter Megan was severely injured when she was struck in a cross walk by an SUV traveling approximately 40 miles an hour. Megan has been in a coma since the accident with multiple skull fractures, a crushed mastoid bone as well as fractured ribs. Megan had surgery to relieve the pressure on her brain, and on January 18th she was placed on breathing assistance equipment and a feeding tube.

Needless to say Megan’s best case scenario will be a very long recovery. To add to this already horrible event Stacey’s car was stolen four weeks ago so she has no transportation to allow her to go home for a change of clothes, to freshen up, or to take care of important business. As Mothers do in a situation like this Stacey is virtually living at the hospital to be close to Megan at all times. Sadly Megan’s father and Stacey’s husband, Gary Beach, died some years back from a massive heart attack so Stacey has been a single mother for many years.

Given how outrageously expensive it is to live in the Bay Area, given how outrageously expensive hospital care is even with insurance, and given Stacey’s need to be with her daughter at this time, which will make it hard for her to work, it is difficult to set a dollar amount for this funding effort. With all this in mind we are setting the initial target at $100,000 knowing that the amount could change as time goes on.

This fundraising effort is being done by Megan’s sister, Kate Bellomo King and Kate’s aunt, Lisa Bellomo. The funds will be managed by Kate for the benefit of her sister’s care, to purchase a “previously owned” vehicle so that Stacey will have transportation at this critical time, and to help Stacey with financial issues as they arise going forward.

We have already seen an outpouring of love and prayers on social media and are so thankful. We thank you in advance for whatever contribution you can make. Please share this wherever possible so that we can at least try to relieve some of the financial burden. And please pray for Megan’s complete recovery!
