Alex's skull surgery
Donation protected
We are Tim and Sylvia Spraggins. We adopted Alex when he was almost 7 InJune of 2008. He is deaf and was born with a bone disorder called clydocranial dysotosis. He is a happy child. He attends the Georgia School for the Deaf, which he loves. He comes home every weekend and talks to us through the week with a Video Relay service. This helps to keep him connected to home and us. Being at the deaf school, he has become more interested in sports. Because of his bone disorder, the doctor would not ok him to participate in athletics. His skull never fully closed up. The defect (hole) in his skull was large, almost the size of a woman's hand. That is the amout of brain exposed to potential danger. Insurance was a bear! Because the procedure to correct the defect required a plastic surgen, Insurance assumed it was cosmetic. Thanks to the doctor they finally saw the need for surgery and approaved the very costly procedure! However we are left with $6,000.00 in hospital/doctor/anestesia bills to pay. I got in touch with the doctor's office and told them what I could pay per month. They said that would take too long, and that they preferred it to be paid in 3 months! So, if you are able, please help us by donating. We will know if Alex's surgery was a success in about Feb or March. Then we'll know if his body accepted the dontated bone needed to fill the devect. Thank you for reading this.
