Help SGT Hammond's family
Donation protected
One of our soldiers, SGT Christopher Hammond, his wife Amy, and their 4 daughters are working their way through some hard times. After his tour in Iraq in 2006-7, his daughter Annabelle was born. Annabelle has been struggling since birth with a rare genetic disorder called VACTERL Association (See Link Attached). Chris keeps pushing through, day after day, despite everything that's thrown at him. He's always maintained a positive outlook, works hard to provide for his family, and is generally a pleasure and inspiration to the people around him. But sometimes, a little help is in order.
Chris was supposed to have started his new job Monday, April 4th, but due to a severe staph infection that set in after Annabelle's most recent surgery, he and his family had to go back to Boston for treatment, which delayed his start date.
The medical bills are stacking up and Chris and his family still have standard cost-of-living expenses to cover as well. We're shooting for $5,000, which would be a drop in the bucket compared to the overall cost of what this family is going through.
Here's a brief and incomplete description of what's going on:
Annabelle Hammond was born prematurely at 29 weeks and spent the first 10 months of her life in NICU. She was born with multiple issues:
* 3 heart chambers, which was repaired at Boston Children's hospital (BCH).
* Pulmonary vein stenosis, a balloon was placed to hold open the vein at BCH.
* Tracheoesophageal fistula, a connection between her trachea and esophagus which allows fluids to leak into lungs. Repaired at BCH.
* Esophageal atrisia, her esophagus didn't not connect to her stomach, requiring about 10 different surgeries. In process of repair.
* Imperfarated anus, her anus was not formed. Repaired at BCH.
* Tethered cord, a layer of fatty tissue in her spinal cord, repaired at BCH.
* Jejunalinterpostion, removing part of her small intestines and using it as a new esophagus. This was her most recent surgery, which ended up being complicated by a sterile breach in the OR, which has now unexpectedly landed her back at BCH, with Annabelle having severe infections in her blood stream, bone, and bone marrow. More than likely she will have to undergo a bone regrowth procedure for her left side of sternum.
* In the coming years she is expected to start a series of spinal surgeries, due to surgical scoliosis.
We don't know what all this stay at Boston Children's hospital holds, but we're hopeful that everything works out as planned. Any help is appreciated.
