UPDATE: Hey everyone! I wanted to thank you all for your donations and I hope everyone is doing well. With everything going on right now, kidney transplants are on hold so things are being delayed. We also found out that Kristi will have to have a parathyroid surgery before she can have a transplant. There are so many secondary complications that are caused by kidney disease and dialysis. We don’t have a date yet for the surgery but will keep everyone updated as soon as we have definite answers
Kristi is in urgent need of a kidney transplant. She is on dialysis and has been on the waiting list for a kidney transplant for almost 2 years. She had a friend willing to donate but for medical reasons the friend was unable to. Now, after a year-long process of testing, her daughter, Brianna, is approved to donate her kidney to her mother.
Unfortunately, Brianna is not a match to donate directly to her mom so they are participating in a paired donor exchange program. Our local hospital does not offer this program, so it will have to be done at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, which is 4 hours away.
We need to raise money quickly because once a donor and recipient is put into the paired donor exchange program and the kidney is matched, the surgery is scheduled with an approximate 2-3 week notice. This call can come at any time.
The money from this fundraiser will pay for current and future medical expenses that insurance does not pay, lodging in Atlanta for the length of time required by the transplant program, many trips back and forth to Atlanta for the first couple of months following the transplant for follow-up appointments, and also the amount of Brianna's salary that isn't covered by her short term disability through her job.
We appreciate all the money raised from our previous campaign. It was a big help with medical bills and travel expenses to Atlanta for Brianna's testing throughout the past year, especially since she had to undergo additional testing such as genetic testing.
