For those who do not know, Peaches is my 5 yr old English Bulldog. I've had her since she was just 8 wks old and has brought so much joy and laughter into my life. She's sweet, playful, affectionate, friendly, stubborn, loves watermelon & peaches, loves tug-of-war, loves to stare and to follow us around. She is just a ball of love (most people would agree if they've met her).
On Monday, 7/6/15, Peaches had surgery to help with her breathing (tonsillectomy& resection of the soft palate). She had been only able to breath at about 30% of her capacity. For you or I, that'd be like breathing through a cocktail straw. The goal of this surgery was to relieve her of the hardship she faced on a regular basis. Never did we think or anticipate that she would have post-op complications.
By Tuesday morning Sean realized that she had not slept all night and was breathing louder than expected. We brought her back to the veterinarian. Her airway swelled up so much that she was hyperventilating and could not breathe on her own. She had to be transported by ambulance to the emergency hospital. She was sedated, intubated, and put on a ventilator. Since then, the wonderful staff at the hospital have been tending to Peaches 24 hours a day. They extubated her and tried her off the ventilator on Wednesday, but she did not tolerate it. They were forced to put her back on the ventilator to calm her, and avoid further inflammation to her airway.
It's been the toughest few days. Coming home from the hospital to a quiet home, empty beds & food bowls has not been easy. The doctors are certain that she's healthy and strong, but just needs more time to heal before she can breathe on her own without the anxiety and inflammation. They are still hopeful they can send her home and so are we. We are going to do everything possible and necessary to help Peaches come home.
It's never easy to ask for help, but her medical bills have been piling up and we just ask you to help us out in any way you can. Even a repost of this link or the smallest amount would be helpful and much appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this! Sean and I would really appreciate any help you can give. Thank you! Thank you! Thank You!
