Kearston Albert's Medical Fund

Kearston Albert is fighting the battle of her life... again. Fort Kent's brave, little warrior has fought  hard most of her young life to slay the cancer beast.

On August 28, 2012 Kearston Albert of Fort Kent, Maine was diagnosed with VHRALL (very high risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia) She underwent treatment that lasted until December 25th of 2014.

On July 6th of 2015 Kearston relapsed.

Receiving a bone marrow transplant was inevitable and the goal was to get her into remission first. Mom Sheri, Dad Michael, big sister Robin and older brothers Ian and Gavin were tested for a match. Robin ended up being the perfect match.

Kearston was scheduled for 3 cycles of chemotherapy but was only able to complete 2 because of complications resulting in 2 different serious infections forcing the radiation to be given earlier than planned. With radiation being completed in 7 days, she received her bone marrow donation from her sister on the 28th of October 2015.

Things went better than expected and Kearston ended up going back home in January with monthly visits to Boston, MA and Brewer, ME.

In late September it was discovered in Boston that her platelet count had dropped, which ended in discovering with a bone marrow test done in Brewer, ME that the leukemia had returned. A new style treatment was started called Blinatumomab which is a bispecific T-cell engager. This is the treatment she is undergoing at this time.

It is not having the effects that they hoped for but it is keeping the leukemia at bay. They are praying to get her into another clinical trial that may beat this once and for all.

I started this page, with the Albert's blessing,  as a way for those who feel helpless to contribute something tangible.  I think I speak for everyone who reads this when I say that we all wish we could take this cancerous beast away from our Dragon Slayer; but we cannot.  We can pray.  We can send them all the love and positive thoughts we can.  We can help them in many ways; but if we can help them financially, it will allow them the room to be able to focus on each other instead of mounting bills.

Let's all lift up this little girl in our thoughts and prayers.

Let's also lift up this entire family of warriors in our thoughts and prayers.  And if you have the means, no matter how big or small, to help financially; you are an angel on earth.
