On 7/14/15 a flash flood ripped through Swain, NY. Within seconds my dad Michael was trapped by his car as it started to float away. He managed to hold on until the water receded engough to make it into the house.
The aftermath is devastating though. The basement was under about 5 feet of water for hours. There is no power, no water, and the force ripped water tanks off the pipes, overturned the fuel oil tank, leaking oil everywhere, and busting heating pipes as well. Most of the stuff that was stored there will have to be thrown away. The water in the garage was waist deep, with about 2 ft of mud left behind. Car insurance will cover damage to the motorcycles and car, but nothing else is covered. Homeowners insurance won't cover anything. FEMA won't get involved as "it's not a big enough area". The Red Cross is doing everything they can by helping with hotels, as the house is not liveable.
We have amazing friends who have just shown up to help with the clean up, and I want to tell you how much we appreciate all your hard work!! You are amazing!
Now I want to help raise money to replace what was lost.
