Aria Vee Johnston was born on March 19th, 2015 to Dana & CJ Johnston. When she was born she looked just like her daddy but had her mommy's eyes & strong will. Now at 4 months old, Aria is a happy baby that loves the water, her favorite toy octopus & kisses from her cousins.
On June 17th, 2 days before Aria's 3 month birthday, Dana & CJ received the devastating news that Aria has Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1. SMA type 1 is a terminal disease with no cure. Spinal Muscular Atrophy is the number one genetic cause of death for infants, and approximately 1 in every 50 individuals is a genetic carrier for SMA.
After weeks trying to process this information as well as Googling everything under the sun about SMA, Dana & CJ have decided to make Aria's short life the best it possibly can be. In doing so, they have made the choice for Dana to now stay home from work to care & be with Aria as much as possible. Dana & CJ along with their families are planning a lot of wonderful things for Aria to experience & have also organized a team (#TeamAria) to walk in the annual Seattle Walk-N-Roll event this September which helps to raise money for a cure for this terrible disease.
