Our mom has been a positive force in not only our lives, but in the lives of everyone around her. Everyone who has met her is a better person because of her selfless attitude and outlook on life. As most of you know, our mother has been battling severe Rheumatoid Arthritis for many years. Despite her pain and limitations in her daily activities, that so many of us take for granted, she continues to amaze everyone around her with her stoic demeanor and positive attitude. However, even with all this strength, she still struggles on a day to day basis.
Over the past several years, she has been hospitalized several times due to her chronic illness and/or the drugs that help to control her symptoms. Due to her compromised immune system, visits to the hospital tend to create even more problems. She also faces difficulties in playing and performing her music-a huge part of who she is as a person. On good days she is able to hide her pain from those around her, but on bad days, it can be hard for her to even get out of bed.
Our mother has visited a long list of doctors, specialists and holistic practitioners. Some have helped, but typically the results are short lived. She has yet to find a doctor, program or treatment regiment that has helped her to heal rather than mask her symptoms. Recently, she has shown interest in a treatment facility, called Hansa, that she truly believes may help her in managing and beginning to overcome her disease. Hansa treatment center is a unique facility specializing in the treatment of chronic illness. This is a place that provides medical care, emotional support and the tools needed to continue her healing in the long term. Unfortunately, the cost is high and insurance will not cover it. She has dismissed the possibility that she will be able to go. Please help us to send her somewhere that she can get the specialized and unique care that she needs and deserves.
