My name is Susan Carr. On May 24th I was taken into emergency surgery at Mercy hospital in Ohio for mysterious stomach pains that I had been having for a few months. I thought it was nothing... It turned out to be stage IV colon cancer.
A year before this, in September, I had brain surgery for my Medically-intractable or uncontrollable epilepsy. I have had epilepsy since I was 6 months old due to high fevers as a child and I am now 51 so this was nothing new. I am unable to drive or work but thanks to my family I am able to live a relativley normal life.
Although there were side affects to the surgery I was recovering. My siezures went from 5-10 times a week to 4 or 5 times a year! I thank God for that and feel extremly blessed.
But as you can imagine, after my family's and my ordeal over that past year, hearing that you now have cancer and that without treatment you will only live a year is a pretty big blow. We did the only thing we knew how to do... We prayed. God is always on our side and I know that with him all things are possible. I plan on fighting this and winning with the help of my God and my family.
My recovery is not my concern, the battle for that is already won, my worry is with my finances and medical bills. Chemo treatments and doctors are expensive. My treatments are about $800-1200 every two weeks. I know that I am in the care of a wonderful hospital, Georgetown University Hospital.
It teaches other doctors who want to help cancer patients. I want to be able to pay my medical bills so that I can encourage and support those in the future!
