Help Save Our Home

Hi my name is John Mangan and I share my home with my wife Nancy and our "son" Wally, a very playful Havanese.
We have lived very happily in this home for about 18 years. We are now in danger of loosing it and very possibly becoming homeless. Over the past year and a half or so we have experienced a series of difficulties one after another that have caused us to end up in this situation. It began when I was laid off from my job, our only source of income. Nancy has been unable to work for some time due to her disabilities. I was able to quickly find a new job, however it was at a greatly reduced salary, and only part time. During this period my father became very ill and was placed in Hospice care. His doctors believed he could leave us at any time. Because of this I took a leave of absence, without pay, and traveled from Maryland to Florida to be with him and help my Mother. What we had thought would be a week turned into over a month before I was able to return home and resume work. Upon returning home my streak of bad luck continued. There was a major plumbing problem that flooded the basement. Repairing this wiped out what little savings we had. We were now 3 months behind on our mortgage. Our mortgage company informed us that we needed to apply for a loan modification to help us get up to date. We submitted the paperwork for this and were then told that they would not accept any payments from us while this request was being processed. I offered several time to make a monthly payment to keep from getting further behind, but they refused. They eve returned a check I tried to send them. After a few months of waiting we were informed that instead of helping us they had sold our loan to another company. I was hoping this would give us a fresh start, but no. We encountered the same response. We would have to apply for a modification, and again they would not accept any monthly payments while this was being processed. Again we offered to make payments several times and were refused. Every time we called and talked to them we were told "don't worry", "we want to help you", etc. This leads to my plea for help. We have received a letter saying that our modification request has been denied and they will proceed with foreclosure. Because of all of the months payments that were refused we now owe about $10,000 in back payments. If we can come up with this foreclosure can be stopped. We have about $2000 in savings, but desperately need help with the rest. Any amount you can give will help and be greatly appreciated. A few additional notes - I have returned to my original job full time, but at a reduced pay while the business continues to recover. Hopefully in the new year my salary will begin to increase. We are also hoping that Nancy will qualify for disability benefits, which will also increase our income. So, if we are able to save our home, we will be able to stay current on payments. But we need help right now, badly. Thank you and bless you, John, Nancy, and Wally
