On the morning of October 17th, tragedy struck the Buchanan family. Chris and Debbie were driving southbound on the Bee Line Highway around 9:30 am when they were struck by a dump truck that was traveling in the wrong lane. Chris died at the scene and his wife, Debbie, sustained life-threatening injuries.
Debbie is currently in stable condition and has been undergoing surgeries daily. Through this difficult and heartbreaking time, Debbie is also battling lung cancer. Chris and Debbie were on their way to Palm Beach Gardens for her cancer treatment on this tragic morning.
Chris was a retired Martin County Volunteer Fire Chief. He served the citizens of Martin County for over three decades and was an instrumental part in the success of Martin County's Volunteer and Reserve programs. Debbie was by his side and supported every dream he had. He was a wonderful man and loved dearly by every person he came across. Many can say, that if it wasn't for Chris, they wouldn't be firefighters today. No matter what time of day, he would answer the call. He served his community, his friends and family with every ounce of his heart. He was a great man and gave so much.
Debbie has a long road to recovery and needs our help. Her cancer treatments alone are costly and her hospital bills are going to pile up quickly. The emotional stress of losing her best friend is taking a toll on her fragile body. In the meantime, we can help alleviate some financial stress by making a donation. Every dollar counts!
Debbie is so grateful for the support of her family and friends and sends her love to all of you.
