Chris Wilkinson's MDS Support Fund
Donation protected
Chris was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) in late July of this year. MDS is a bone marrow disorder that leads to Leukemia if not treated or caught in time. The bone marrow functions abnormally leading him to have lower cell counts than normal. He has had monthly lab work to monitor his RBC, WBC and platelet counts. MDS is very rare for ages under 50’s, so Doctors have decided to be aggressive with treatment before it progresses. In November Chris met with the transplant physician and he would like to move forward with a bone marrow transplant after the first of the year.
Chris will be getting a 2nd bone marrow biopsy this December and then evaluated throughout the month of January. We are estimating the transplant to start before March 1st. At that time Chris will need to move to Nashville to be closer to the Oncology center. Family will remain in Fort Campbell, KY for the duration of the procedure.
Everything has gone as well as we could hope for with this diagnosis. While the Army has been able to help with most expenses, the timing is quicker than expected. Your donations will help lessen any treatment related costs not covered by Tricare such as a caregiver, sperm banking, or any unexpected costs.
Their family has been very fortunate thus far with the situation they have been handed. Friends and family have been amazing support for him during this time and we are lucky to have caught it so early. We have stayed very positive and have continued praying throughout this journey. Thank you for all the love and support.
