Raising money for the school tuition of 30 girls

Donation protected
My name is Barbara and I am raising money for the young girls' school tuition, who's families face the stark choice  between food on the table, or education for their daughters.  My husband and I spent our Christmas at my in-laws in Bhavnagar, India. At a family party we met with Nilay’s former teacher, Mr Guvnart. He was telling us about the children he is educating from local slum area who live in poverty, many without a shelter and in dirty conditions. Girls don’t have much value, many don't know what love or hug is. Their destiny is to get married as child brides by the time they are 18. Boys, on contrary, are valuable to their parents. Mr Guvnart has decided to open a school in 2010 for these girls. He started to walk from one family to another to persuade the parents to send the girls to the school. He started with 37 girls in 2010 and has now 1200 students which is beyond the school capacity. He also employs 45 teachers and staff, many of whom are from the slums. The girls are between 3 and 16 years old. The building doesn't accommodate everyone therefore they study in shifts. They are fed breakfast not to study hungry. On their birthdays, their parents receive half a bag of rice. The girls are achieving good results, one of these amazing girls had the best test results in the whole state.  When I visited the school, the girls were shy at first. Mr Guvnart asked the girls who feels sad. One small girl put her hand up. He asked me to give her a hug because many of them have never had one. The tears started to flood my face. I gave about 300 hugs. They were big, loving hugs so the girls know they are loved and remember that feeling. They shyly approach me one by one, then in pairs with their friends, then three at a time and then all of them at once. I was worried they will stump over me or themselves. One girl put her hand towards me, opened it up and said “for you”. There was a small paper box with one chocolate in it. It was so dirty from months of holding on to it. She gave me her only possession which she guarded as a treasure. I felt a ball in my throat and could not speak anymore. The future of these girls isn’t great but to be literate will give them some freedom and independence from the male figures, and perhaps, some of them will break from the societal expectations and become role models for other girls. The annual school tuition is between 45 and 75 pounds per a girl (54 - 89 EURO or  59- 99 USD). Many parents are unable to pay the full or partial fees. So let's get at least 30 girls to the school and either pay their full or partial tuition.  I am raising this as a personal project to ensure that the money will go directly to the girls for their annual school fees. Mr Guvnarat will propose the names of the girls that are in the biggest need for funding. He will give us receipts with the names of the girls, age, classroom and how much money went towards her tuition. Thank you for taking the time to read this. It would mean the world to these young girls if you could share this and donate!
