A couple of months ago, I came across Jack. His previous owner was in a tough spot and had to rehome all of her pets. No one seemed to want Jack because he was “missing an eye” — the result of being bitten on the head by a dog when he was just a kitten. The moment I saw him, I knew he was meant for me.

He has some unique little quirks that made me love him even more. He loves licking people, strangely enough, and is very emotionally attached to his fish toy. However, he also has what seems to have some kind of short-term memory loss — sometimes he’ll walk just a few feet away from me and start meowing like he’s lost and alone, even though I’m right there. It’s as if he forgets where he is or that I’m nearby. It makes me sad, but I think it is a part of what makes him special.

When I took Jack to the vet, I learned that his previous owner never brought him in — not even after his injury. During his first exam before being neutered, we found out he had fleas, tapeworms, and — most surprising of all — that he still had his eye. It turns out he has a small, underdeveloped eye tucked deep in his socket, not missing as we were told.

I had already planned to get his eyelid sewn shut to prevent irritation and infection, but now Jack also needs surgery to fully remove the eye. This is a much more involved (and expensive) procedure. Where I am financially, I simply can’t afford this on my own.

Jack didn’t deserve what he went through. Despite everything, he is such a loving, gentle little man. Though the situation is not dire as he has lived like this for awhile, I just want to give him a happy, healthy life moving forward.

If you are able to help me help Jack in any way, I would be forever grateful. Every little bit helps!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, it truly means the world to me! ^-^
