We Are Her Voice: Justice for Jasmin

Our friend Jasmin tragically went missing Tuesday, March 9th when she was supposed to meet with a friend. When this friend went to pick her up, they were unable to reach her. It was discovered that all of Jasmin's personal belongings, including her ID, credit/debit cards, and her car were all left behind. Items that were all very uncharacteristic for Jasmin to leave without.
On Wednesday morning she was officially reported missing by her husband. Jasmin’s family was contacted later that morning by authorities with the news that Jasmin was reported missing and were asked if they had any information of her whereabouts. A search for Jasmin by friends and family ensued and on Friday March 12th Jasmin was found dead.
Many of us would describe Jasmin as a-kind-hearted, gentle soul. Those closest to her would describe her as having a strong sense of humor, big personality, and as having a very responsible demeanor for a young adult. A lot of us knew Jasmin from a young age, as she was an open and welcoming friend, teammate, and family member.
As a young adult, Jasmin began a relationship with her now husband. Some time into the relationship many noticed a personality shift in Jasmin, as she became estranged from her friends and family. Jasmin entrusted a small circle of friends with the information that her relationship was unhealthy. However, it was unknown just how severe the verbal, physical, and mental abuse she was facing from her husband. At one point the abuse had gotten so bad that Jasmin reported to authorities that she received injuries from her husband and it resulted in his arrest. But this was not an isolated event, there were multiple instances of abuse.
At this point Jasmin did all she could to salvage the relationship by starting therapy, and she was determined to change the opinion of the toxic relationship to those around her. Many thought things were improving. However, when the news of her disappearance had become public, all of us feared for the worst. This past week is when we all realized that Jasmin was unable to escape the abuse.
As her very close childhood friend her brother and I have have set up this GoFundME not only to help the family with any funeral expenses but also to spread awareness that this could happen to anyone, even those we least expect. Her brother Francisco and her mother Armida will be using these funds to help with funeral expenses. Although Jasmin is no longer with us, her family would like to be her voice and spread this message:
If you find yourself in a similar situation, do not be afraid to speak up.
Remember you do not have to face this alone.
