My name is Evionna Hampton I am currently a freshman biology major attending Spelman College in Atlanta and unfortunately my registration for this semester has been revoked and soon so will my housing due to a remaining balance on my account. In fall of 2025 my tuition and fees were meant to be covered by The Veterans Affairs Education Department but unfortunately due to the lengthy government shutdown our nation experienced this process was placed at a standstill and remained unresolved until the first week of January. Before leaving for winter break I was assured as long as things were resolved I would be guaranteed registration and not to worry but unfortunately this has not been the case. Spelman College is an amazing institution however when it comes to communication and aid for its students they definitely fall short. I was given a deadline of approximately 9 days to come up with $2,776 to act as a sort of collateral to ensure that even once the VA disburses their funds that all fees will be covered and I was told there are no emergency funds put into place for these kinds of situations. I please ask that you donate what you can and please share I do love Spelman despite its flaws and I would hate for what my family and I believed was a small snafu to end up putting a pin in my education journey.
