This summer and fall, Mark Velardi was having unexplained fevers that were attributed to a viral illness by clinicians, followed more recently by nonspecific abdominal pain. On November 20th, 2017, after six weeks of hospitalizations, tests, and biopsies, Mark and Christa received the unimaginable news that Mark has Colon Cancer with aggressive metasasis to his liver at 49 years old: one year before normal colorectal screening would begin. Mark has absolutely no family history of colorectal cancer.
Please consider joining me in helping Mark, Christa, and their two young sons, Mac (13) and Griffin (10), fight this battle. Mark and Christa will both be taking unpaid time off from their jobs when treatment begins.
Mark is the most wonderful father, husband, son, brother, son-in-law, nephew, cousin, uncle, and friend to all. He is personally like a brother to me. He has selflessly supported his family during the early part of Mac and Griffin's lives when they too fought courageous battles in the NICU as premature infants. He again supported Christa during her time as a stay-at-home-mom and during nursing school. He is the first one to volunteer as a coach for his kids or to help anyone out with whatever they need. Mac and Finn adore their dad so very much, and Christa and Mark are the closest couple that I have ever met.
Thank you all so very much from the bottom of our hearts. I leave you with a direct quote from Mark tonight: "I'm okay - I'm STRONG! We will get through this - I will WIN! I have a strong will and I feel great."
