My sister Robin is my best friend. She's not just the funniest person I know but a wonderful sister, daughter, mother and wife. She is loved by so many but the truth is bad things happen to good people.
Robin underwent a cancer prevention hysterectomy in December and it went terribly wrong. There was a tragic mistake made that put her near death several times and on life support. We sat at her bedside around the clock praying for a miracle to keep her alive, taking shifts waiting for any sign of improvement. It took what seemed an eternity before she could breathe on her own and her heart could beat on its own but she made it!!!! She defied the odds!
After months of healing and learning to stand and then walk and then do the most mundane things like putting on her own shoes, she made it, she got to go home!!!!! It's been a very long 7 months. But my sister is ALIVE!
Now it is time to try and repair the damage and try to be "normal" again, coach her son's little league team, go to her daughters volleyball tourneys and celebrate her oldest daughters 21st birthday. Even though so much time was lost, we look forward to time when Robin can be pain free and without all the medical supplies, prescriptions, bandages and reminders of what she has been through. The end seems so close I can almost touch it.
One more surgery, one more recovery, one more day spent pacing in the OR waiting room....I pray that it will be just this one more time. And yet I would sit in that waiting room with bad coffee as many times as it takes and sit watching her vitals on a little monitor above her bed again because I am just so greatful she is still here.
All this hope ahead of us and yet the finacial heaviness is still there. Robin hasn't had any income for months and the bills continue to pile up and the needs of her family never cease and pain of being helpless to do anything to change it is heart breaking.
So many of our friends, family, and colleagues have asked me time and again, "how can we help?". This is how. Only if you want to, only if your heart leads you and only if it's because you want to help.
Please keep praying and please keep telling her you love her and that she can do this! We have come so far and learned so much about what's important in this life but we are still moving through the journey.
Thanking you for walking with us and thank you for believing in hope, faith and love-the greatest of these is love❤️
