Arlo’s surgery
Donation protected
Hi everyone. September of 2022 I fractured my scaphoid in my hand. This injury has not healed itself and unfortunately has a 0% chance of healing itself.
It takes away lots of movement in my left hand as well as meaning that I can not move it past a 180 degree angle.
This injury has had a massive impact on my rugby. I have played rugby since I was 4 years old.
I currently play rugby for Yorkshire Rugby Academy Under 17s as well as on the Bishop Burton college team. I have always loved rugby, it is my passion. I am hoping to take this to the next level .
This injury also impacts my everyday life. From time to time, I find I cannot even hold a simple plate in my hand.
We have decided to look into going private for my surgery as I have been on a NHS waiting list since September 2022 when I got injured and so far nothing has happened.
I have spoken to the private doctor (Mr Doug Campbell at the Spire in Leeds) and he has warned me of what could happen if I do not have the surgery soon, such as really bad arthritis within the next 5 years. This would further impact on my rugby.
The necessary surgery will mean I will be in a cast for 2 months and also won't be able to move my hand for a month after as well. This surgery is something that I need doing sooner rather than later because I am at risk of fracturing the bone even more.
Dr Campbell has given me a figure of how much surgery would cost + all the after treatment. The cost is a whopping £6,616 yes that's a lot of 6s.
I never enjoy asking for money but anything to contribute I would be very grateful.
