In early March, nearly 900 students at the University of Sussex received alarming reminder letters from the University Finance Team about outstanding debts due to a change in University procedures. These letters came with threats of suspension and potential removal from the UK, causing significant distress, especially among international and lower-income students.

Many of these students are now facing severe challenges that affect their mental health, wellbeing, and education. The Sussex Students’ Union has published an open letter addressing these issues and demanding immediate and long-term action from the University.
