I would like to start off and say thank you in advance for anything that you may possibly be able to do. Any help counts right now and every prayer as well.
One of my biggest fears is getting a phone call from a hospital and the person on the other line saying that your loved one has been involved in an accident… I faced those fears this past Tuesday, March 4.
On the evening of March 4 around 5 PM, A.J. was struck by a motorist while riding his bike on Route One in Saint Augustine, Florida. As you may know, A.J. recently took on a new business endeavor and moved to Florida to better himself and our family. On his way to a meeting, a motorist hit A.J. with their car, knocking him unconscious and injuring him. A.J. was medevaced to Orange Grove Trauma Center via helicopter due to the severity of his injuries. Upon briefly regaining consciousness, A.J. was able to give my name and number and my parents' names for the case manager to contact us.
Once stabilized, doctors were able to get a better assessment of A.J.'s injuries and internal damage. Those injuries include fractures of his C1 through C4 vertebrae in his spine, multiple broken ribs, a broken foot and ankle, clavicle, and shoulder. As the days have gone by, doctors have informed us that he is by no means out of the woods. With one of three surgeries down, he still has a lot of rehabilitation and treatment to undergo, and this will be something he has to deal with for the rest of his life. The recovery is looking like anywhere from 12 to 16 months. He is lucky, and we are lucky that he is not paralyzed. However, these injuries will pose life challenges moving forward.
We are asking for prayers, donations, anything that you can do. Because right now, that’s all we can ask for. A.J. has been touched by the amount of love and support from friends, family, and clients who have reached out to him. Please keep doing that to help keep his spirits up. This is an unimaginable thing to happen, but we are hopeful and united; we are stronger than we were before. I don’t like asking for help. I don’t like asking for sympathy or pity, but I beg you, if there’s anything you can do to find it in your heart to help, it would be greatly appreciated not only by A.J. but by our family as well. donations will be directed used to assist in A.J.‘s ongoing medical care that will be needed after he leaves the hospital. We are not sure where this long winding road of recovery is going to lead but with your help, we hope that we can better navigate what’s to come. Thank you again to every single one of you.
