My name is Linda, and I am Megan's mom! Let me start by saying that she does not know I am doing this, and I am new to this platform so, fingers crossed.
For those of you that do not know her, Megan is a brilliant, compassionate, awesome human being who has overcome so much in her life. She was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 4 years and has shown me how resilient and brave she is every day. She has recently been accepted to a psychology program that she is so excited about but doesn't have enough money to start this coming semester. It is an accelerated course where she completes 16 weeks of classes in only 8 weeks, so the workload is heavy.
Megan is very driven and always has a positive attitude. She graduated high school with honors despite her disease. After she was diagnosed, we became involved with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and she and her sister would help raise money as well as volunteer to talk to students, nurses and mentor newly diagnosed families. Megan has never felt sorry for herself, and her tenacity has carried her through many obstacles. She is going for a double major, journalism and psychology, and has earned her BA in both this summer. Shortly after she started college, she became pregnant, had her beautiful daughter, Athena, and still graduated on time, with honors!
I wish it were easier for people to pay for college in the United States, but we all know that a higher education is not affordable for most of us. So far, Megan has paid $3,000 off in FAFSA loans and has won a $500 scholarship. She has applied for approximately 50 scholarships but has only heard back from 3, which she did not get and recently told me she is starting to lose hope in coming up with the money she needs. Megan is truly an amazing human, which is why I am asking for your help........she really does deserve it!
So, the deadline to pay for this term is September 30th, which is right around the corner, anything you can give will help! Your gift is so appreciated and thank you so much for taking the time to read our story.
Have a blessed day!
