The Story
A few weeks ago, Leo crafted the most delicious pastries for Faubourg's first Flavor of South America event and our 4th anniversary celebration. Leo is a gifted pastry chef who helped make our recent Latinos of Montclair tasting event a success, sharing his craft and his warmth with all of us.
Today, Leo needs us.
On June 1, Leo was detained by ICE while entering a shopping center in Buffalo, New York. In an instant, a hardworking, beloved member of our community was taken from his family, his coworkers, and the life he has built here.
Leo is not a danger to anyone. He has a pending asylum case and a valid work permit. He did everything the right way — following the legal process, working honestly, and contributing to his community. His family and his employer are devastated, and they have turned to us for help.
We cannot stand by while one of our own faces detention alone.
Why We're Raising $20,000
Fighting an immigration case is expensive, urgent, and complex. Every dollar raised will go directly toward Leo's legal defense, including:
- Immigration attorney fees to fight for his release and protect his asylum claim
- Bond costs, if a bond is granted, to bring Leo home while his case proceeds
- Court filing and case-related expenses
Skilled legal representation is the single most important factor in cases like Leo's. With the right attorney, Leo has a real chance to come home to New Jersey and continue his case in freedom. Without it, he faces this fight alone.
