I’ve never been one to ask for help, but I’m swallowing my pride for my mom. In December 2023, she was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. Within 48 hours, we moved her into our home to care for her. The doctors told us she won’t beat this, but a surgery could extend her life. For years, she’s also battled multiple sclerosis, which already makes daily life a struggle. Deciding to go through with such a major surgery wasn’t easy—especially while so sick from cancer—but she followed every step the doctors recommended to prepare.

After the surgery, at her post-op appointment, we got devastating news. The oncologist revealed the surgeon failed to remove all the cancer as planned, and it had spread to her bloodstream. To make matters worse, we learned the surgeon had quit the practice and left the state. It’s been a heartbreaking, chaotic 14 months.

This week, my mom struggled to breathe and was rushed to the hospital. Tests showed fluid around her heart and lungs, and doctors discovered she needs a stent in her heart to keep it from giving out. But in her current condition—weakened by cancer and MS—they say she can’t handle the surgery. My mom agrees; she feels her body can’t take more stress. I’ve arranged for a nurse to start coming to our home to provide care.

Then came another blow: we found out her health insurance was canceled. The mounting hospital bills and nurse visits are now entirely out of pocket. I’m turning to you for help.
