My daughter Rylee and her husband have been through so much in the last 2 years. Last April, they lost their first daughter Makynzee due to severe preeclampsia. Rylee had a 2 week stay in the hospital and ICU.
When they got pregnant with their second baby, they were thrilled! The pregnancy was going really good. With her history of a complicated pregnancy, Rylee was being watched very closely. In May, they had run some routine bloodwork, and it had come back abnormal, and they suspected the baby to be anemic. So they began watching the bloodflow in the baby's brain. As the bloodflow got faster, they knew the anemia was getting worse.
Around September, it was slowly creeping faster. Rylee had appointments and ultrasounds 3-4 times a week. Then they noticed during one of the visits that the baby's nose was underdeveloped. They did an amniocentesis, and sent her for a fetal MRI. The amnio was normal, but the MRI didnt show a clear enough picture of the nose and nasal passages.
So they were left with the unknown. Then the bloodflow in the brain began to get faster, and a blood transfusion was needed. They took Rylee into the operating room and did basically another amnio to test the babys blood levels so they knew how much blood to give.
3 weeks later, the blood flow began to speed up again, and rather than do another risky transfusion, it was decided that delivery was the best option.
Ashlee Elizabeth Gordon was born on November 8, 2016 weighing 4 pounds 6 oz. Without knowing the extent of her nasal problems she was sent directly to NICU, where they placed a breathing tube down her throat, and began running tests. They discovered that Ashlee has neonatal Lupus. She also has a rare condition that affects all of the bones in her body, and her nose. She will most likely need reconstructive surgery to fix the cartilage and bone in her nose. She could also potentially have to deal with cataracts in her eyes.
They aren't sure yet to what extent the problems are going to be, but she will have a lengthy stay in the NICU, and many visits after discharge.
I'm creating this account to help with medical bills, and to help Ashlee fight to stay strong during her struggles. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated, especially your prayers. Thank you and God bless.
