Chad Wingo’s wife Megan has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor and is undergoing surgery to have it removed, which will be followed by ongoing treatment.
Megan has been struggling with constant headaches over the last month so they went to Urgent Care where they recommended she schedule an MRI. She met with Neurologist the following week who put her on a 7-day steroid and scheduled an MRI for 6/25. The steroid finally relieved the pressure and pain for the first time she first started feeling it a week so prior. At this point, the Neurologist was not expecting to see anything abnormal on the MRI, but just scheduling for due diligence.
After the 7-day steroid pack, the headaches returned. The Neurologist then prescribed a migraine medication. That only partially worked. Last week they called the Neurologist office every day seeking a consistent pain relief management strategy. The Neurologist said there was nothing more she could prescribe until after the MRI and advised if they need relief to go to the ER so they returned to the ER last Thursday night. Megan received an IV with a steroid where for the second time she finally had relief from the pain. She was discharged that night, but once the steroid subsided, the pain returned.
They scheduled an MRI for yesterday at 6:30 AM dressed in their work attire, not expecting to find abnormal results. But the results unfortunately showed a sizable malignant tumor in her right brain, bigger than a golf ball, pressing on her brain stem and pushing into her left brain. This was the reason for the constant pressure and headaches. She was immediately admitted back to ER and surgery scheduled for Thursday to remove the tumor. The Neuro Surgeon explained that the cancer is not curable with surgery, its just the first step. After surgery, she will start treatment.
