Lucy's Fight Against Leukemia

Donation protected
As some of you may know, Lucy Grace was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on 2/4/2021, three days before her 4th birthday. She has been at Boston Children’s Hospital ever since where she began treatment immediately. Thankfully, Sharilyn noticed Lucy’s symptoms early on and contacted her pediatrician with her concerns. Lucy had lab work done on 2/3/2021 and the results came in that night. Lucy was then discharged from CCH to BCH with severe anemia, abnormal labs, and tachycardia with concerns for leukemia. In the 3+ weeks that Lucy has been in the hospital she has had multiple procedures, is receiving daily chemo, and has had to adjust to a whole new life. As a side effect of her treatments Lucy has also developed Type 1 diabetes. Daily chemotherapy and multiple daily finger sticks have been so hard on Lucy.

She is a very girly girl who loves to dress up, dance, spend time with family and friends, do arts and crafts, play with her Dollies, watch Disney movies with her sissy, cook and bake, go to the beach and shop in “lil stores”. Lucy is a very smart little girl. She is usually sassy, energetic, and hilarious. But right now she is tired, scared, and angry. She is learning more each day about her diagnosis. Mom and Dad read her childhood cancer books and she is observing everything that goes on at her “lil doctors” like she calls it.

Due to Covid, friends and family cannot visit, not even siblings. This has been extremely difficult on all family members; Sharilyn has not left the hospital since being admitted, and Jordan has been traveling back and forth from the Cape to Boston to visit and juggle going to work and being home for their 12 year old daughter Janaya. Who has only been able to see her sister on facetime.

It is still unknown of when Lucy can return home and it is dependent on her recovery and response to treatments. When Lucy is able to go home she will still have a long road a head of her. Treatments are on going for two years with surgical procedures, future inpatient stays, and driving to Boston weekly for chemotherapy. She will continue to adjust to the life of being a diabetic. She will not be abe to return to daycare for a long time. Anytime she gets a fever she will have to go to the ER with a chance of being admitted if her ANC levels are too low.

Because of all of this Sharilyn has been out of work not knowing when she will be able to return. As we all know, life doesn’t stop for anyone, and bills continue to pile up and hospital bills are already rolling in. We are hoping to get ahead of this family having to suffer any more than they already have. Any help will be greatly appreciated and if you cannot donate, just sharing this can go a long way. Please keep Lucy and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

On behalf of the Gomes & Villanueva family we would like to thank everyone!
