Help with Onyx's Surgery!

Donation protected
Hi everyone, thank you for visiting the GoFundMe for Maya and Onyx. My name is Ashley, and I am a family friend trying to help raise funds for a desperately needed surgery. For those of you who know Maya, you know how much she absolutely loves animals of all kinds. She has devoted her time to working at Dig It Dogs. She animal sits on the side as well as owning her very first dog of her own, Onyx, a beautiful 14-month-old Newfoundland.

Maya is a college student, working extremely hard to create a good life for herself, along with working as much as she can. Maya would be the first to help someone in need with their animals, children, or even themselves in general. She is in absolutely no position to be able to afford this on her own; however, Onyx deserves the very best care we can get her.

Onyx and Maya's mom’s dog got out of their backyard, which is unknown how. Her stepdad found them up the road and heard Onyx whimpering. There were no cars around. Onyx was brought back home but was unable to walk, so Maya acted quickly and took her to the vet, which was $2k in itself. Not to mention, being a responsible dog owner, Maya just had Onyx spayed a few weeks ago, which we all know is also not cheap! Justin (her stepdad) knocked on doors around the neighborhood and found the older lady that hit Onyx. She said she saw Oakley but didn’t see Onyx until the last minute when she hit her. She said that she stopped but didn’t see the dogs anymore, so she kept driving, got gas, and then circled back to follow up but still didn’t see them. She stated she went home and did a police report.

At Upstate Veterinary, they ran multiple tests, including an ultrasound showing evidence of lung contusions to her chest. She was then sedated for radiographs, which revealed 3 pelvic fractures.

The vet highly recommends surgery for this injury and should be pursued within the first 1-2 weeks after the injury. The other option is strict cage rest for 8 weeks, which there is no promise Onyx will not live the rest of her life without pain and have limited mobility along with many other issues. For the best life for Onyx, which we know is with Maya - pitching in even $5 will help!

Thank you all for reading. If you can't donate, please share!

*Update from Onyx's Mommy 8/24*
First, I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been donating, sharing Onyx’s GoFundMe, and checking in on her. Your kindness means the world to me

Onyx is hanging in there. She still has a long road ahead, but I’m grateful that she’s eating, drinking, and able to use the bathroom with assistance. It takes a lot out of her, but she’s pushing through and showing her strength every day.

To help raise more for her care, I’m hoping to do something a little fun and put together some ****** baskets. If anyone is interested in helping by donating items, putting a basket together, or contributing in any way, it would be so appreciated. Every little bit truly makes a difference for Onyx’s recovery.

Thank you again to everyone who has shown love and support for my girl, I couldn’t do this without you!
