Hello, my name is David Todd. My wife, Paula and I want to let you know how our youngest daughter has gone through another heart breaking loss. The following is a shortened version of what my daughter posted on Facebook. What she did not elaborate on is the fact that her husband’s new job had to be postponed to be with her(salary missed) and the only insurance is very expensive Cobra costing over $2000.00 a month! New deductibles and Jennifer not able to work for at least two to three weeks there is no salary coming in. She does not have sick days. This family lives very frugally with her large SUV as the only nicety they splurge on …. well it is now gone and a much smaller vehicle will serve them now. The medical bills have not even begun to come in but this couple is cutting back to do their part. Please help my daughter that has undergone more than her share of heartache with three cancer surgeries during college and first year of marriage.
This her story from Facebook: Monday, January 4TH started like any other day for me except hubby was starting a new job. I was at work and around 4pm I felt a little discomfort in my abdomen. I had just learned a few days prior that I was about 6 weeks pregnant, and having had a complication with a previous pregnancy I was a little concerned in the back of my mind. I tried to dismiss this idea and thinking maybe it was a little morning sickness I went to the bathroom. That is when I got light headed and dizzy, I had to lie down on the floor to keep from passing out. I called my practice manager to come help me and realized I could not sit up without passing out. My mom and husband soon arrived to take me home. Thinking it was just a bad stomach bug we decided to give it some time. Over the next few hours, though, it became clear that this was something more serious. I continued to deteriorate to the point that I could not stand without help and I passed out when trying to sit up. An ambulance rushed me to the hospital. They continued to struggle to stabilize my blood pressure and I was having increasing level of abdominal pain. After routine labs revealed nothing obvious they wanted to imaging. The first attempt to get me to ultrasound was unsuccessful and set off a wave of pain level I did not even know existed. This pain was far worse than anything I ever experienced with labor and delivery pain, or any of my three neck surgeries. Finally, with some delay, they were able to image and confirm my fears. I had an ectopic pregnancy that had ruptured and was causing internal bleeding. They called in the emergency surgeon, who luckily arrived quickly. All the while my pain level had reached an almost unbearable level. All I could think about was fighting through because I knew I needed to be there for Adelaide. It was a very frightening experience for all us involved. The surgeon determined I had lost about 50% of my blood volume by the time I got to surgery. They gave me several units of blood and a large volume fluid resuscitation. Surgery went well and she was able to do the procedure laparoscopically, which means a much faster healing time, and was able to save the ovary on the side of the rupture. While I am still anemic and borderline hypotensive I am feeling so much better. It is hard to not be able to pick up Adelaide, but I am just glad I can still get to hold her. While the timing is difficult, no time is ever good for things like this. It definitely makes me appreciate the little things in life. I am just so happy to be here and that things worked out and for the most part I had a fantastic team of nurses and doctors that took great care of me every step of the way.
