Help my Mum fight cancer

Donation protected
I am fundraising to help my mum receive an alternative cancer treatment abroad.

Background story:

Late summer last year, my mum was diagnosed with Stage IV secondary cancer. This appeared and aggressively developed over the past year, following a previous surgery in February 2021.

In 2012 my mum was abroad and experienced various pains in her chest and difficulty breathing. She was given a full assessment abroad, and a large mass in the lining of her lung was discovered. Between 2005 and 2012, my mum had continuously expressed health problems she had noticed; however, the correct assessment was never carried out. As the mass was in the lining of her lung, her lung was unable to expand properly and was pressed up against her heart. This added pressure put a strain on her heart.

As there were numerous risks that my mum could die during surgery, she decided only to undergo surgery when it was considered absolutely necessary. That time came at the end of 2020 when the mass started to grow again suddenly. She was back and forth in hospital over Christmas, New year and January before going to Edinburgh for surgery in February 2021. The picture below is the removed 35cm, 10lb mass.  To help put the image below into perspective,  imagine a mass the size of a basketball located in the lining of your lung.

It became apparent that the mass was cancerous only once it was removed.

The effect this mass has had on my mum's quality of life is indescribable. It played a massive part in our lockdown experience, and when it was removed, we truly thought she had been given a fresh start in life.

In June 2021, we found out there were two new growths. The surgeon had planned to carry out a second surgery on my mum in November 2021; however, in September, a new scan showed these growths had begun to enlarge in size, and several nodules in both lungs had appeared (metastasising). As they were metastasising, the surgeon explained he had to refer my mum to the sarcoma team. The sarcoma team were only able to offer palliative treatments. Last Tuesday, my mum was given the devastating news that she only had less than six months to live. This news has brought so many tears to our little family however, we are not ready to give up just yet.

After a lot of research, we’ve decided to raise money for an alternative treatment abroad. The success stories at this centre have been incredible to read however, the real encouragement has come from the fact the individuals themselves posted these stories. Many of these people were in the same position as my mum, with stage IV cancer.

The treatment:

CHIPSA is a centre in Mexico with an incredible success rate for various cancers. The treatment we are looking at costs an eye-watering £45,000 therefore, we are looking to raise a minimum of £55,000 to cover treatment, travel expenses and any extra surprises along the way. If anyone wants more information about CHIPSA I’d be happy to privately send all the information and success stories I’ve read. I hope our findings help others along the way!

It’s heart-breaking to know that there are options out there yet, not having that time to make the required funds. My mum has managed to overcome so much, but we are at the stage where we know that we can’t do this alone. If you can spare anything at all, we would be so grateful for your help. If you are not in a financial position to help, we would be so thankful if you could share my Fakebook or Instagram post to spread the word. With the power of social media, I would love to give my mum her deserved a second chance at life.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and kindness.

With love,

Me and my mum x

If we are unable to use the money for the cause we are raising it for, this money will go towards any alternative support/options, others in need or charities.
