*UPDATE:* Theo had his surgery yesterday (the 14th)!! They sent him home with some pain and anxiety medications, so his recovery should go smoothly! Any further donations will go towards the cost of the biopsy ($325 of the total $1,092 estimate). The clinic can hold the sample for up to a week before testing (until the 21st), so we have some extra time to come up with the money. The biopsy is optional, but it would tell us whether or not the testicle is cancerous!

We brought our dog, Theo, to the vet for what we thought would be a UTI. After an exam, urinalysis, and scan, we were told he would need urgent surgery for a potentially cancerous testicle.

Theo was diagnosed with cryptorchidism (meaning that one of his testicles never dropped and is still in his abdomen). The cost of neutering cryptorchid dogs is higher than average, since surgery is required to completely remove the affected testicle. Cryptorchidism does not cause issues until the testicle becomes twisted or cancerous. Since the 4th of January, Theo has unfortunately been dealing with pain, bloody urine, and struggling to empty his bowels. We were told the retained testicle is the likely culprit.

Our vet gave us an estimate between $767.20 to $1,092.20 for the surgery. This is the full cost breakdown (contact information covered for privacy):

Ideally the surgery would have been done today, but we are a low income family and cannot afford it. Our vet is the most affordable one in the area, but they do not take payment plans. Without this surgery, his condition will likely worsen.
