UPDATE: Linda and the family would like to express their utmost appreciation for all the kind words and thoughts, and a HUGE thank you for all the donations. Your kindness has helped ease the unexpected financial stress associated with Rick’s passing. Thank you again!!UPDATE: THANK YOU SO MUCH to all that have graciously donated to help with the expenses associated with Uncle Rick’s passing. The cost of cremation is proving to be more than we anticipated, along with the cost of the proper certificates that need to be filed. Your donations have relieved so much stress for Amie and we are all so thankful for your generosity during this difficult time.
It is with a sad heart that we announce the passing of Rick “Pop” Pilkerton today.
As some of you may know, Rick has been battling pneumonia for awhile now, on top of having to go to weekly dialysis. He was admitted to the hospital earlier this week in hopes that they would be able to treat the pneumonia and he would finally start to feel better. Unfortunately, it was discovered that one of his lungs was full of infection and while in the hospital it collapsed. He had to be incubated to assist with his breathing and try to give him some comfort until the doctors could fully diagnose his situation. No amount of antibiotics was touching the infection and the doctors said they had done all they could do.
Uncle Rick was tired. He decided that he didn’t want to be in pain anymore and wanted to be able to “rest”. He assured Amie that he was ready for them to take the tube out so he could be at peace. I know this was not an easy decision for her as we talked for hours, but she also knew it was what was best for HIM.
The tube was removed yesterday afternoon and he was kept sedated and comfortable until he was finally at peace earlier this afternoon.
When I think of Uncle Rick or “Pop” as the kids called him, I think of smiling as I can’t recall a time I was around him that he wasn’t smiling or laughing. He loved his boys, his grandchildren, and all his nieces and nephews whole heartedly.... and he loved Amie (as she is known to all of us kids)...Linda to most others.
His wishes were to be cremated and unfortunately he did not have any kind of life insurance. This unexpected expense, along with moving expenses is something I am hoping to be able to assist Amie with in order to lessen the burden.
The entire family thanks you for your support and prayers.
Rest In Peace Uncle Rick
