Hi my name is Susan and my siblings and I are fundraising for our brother Paul Whitehurst.
6 weeks ago our brother was diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer, Multiple Myeloma, that has no cure but is treatable with extensive treatments.
Paul is someone who has avoided medical attention, throughout his life. His thoughts were always "what u don't know won't kill you" At the age of 50 a FIT test (home poop sample kit) arrived in the mail, which Paul quickly disregarded. Months later a 2nd one arrived, his daughter Lauryn, strongly encouraged her dad to complete it, which he did. Weeks later Paul received a letter stating his sample was irregular. He then underwent a number of procedures all coming back negative, with the exception of his bloodwork that was concerning to Paul's Dr. After further blood testing, Paul was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma.
Paul's life changed dramatically at that moment as this was his biggest fear.
Paul is currently undergoing 4-1 month cycles of Chemo, Steroid and bone strengthening treatments. At the end of the cycles, Paul will be traveling to Ottawa to be treated by his team of specialists. He will undergo extensive Chemotherapy followed by stem cell extraction and transplant. After this process Paul will have a lengthy stay in the hospital, both in Ottawa and Thunder Bay.
Throughout this process Paul will have his wife Cheri by his side.
Through these tough times our family would like to lessen their financial burden. Any little bit will help and is greatly appreciated.
Paul and Cheri would like to donate a portion of the funds raised to Multiple Myeloma Canada for research.
