Many of you may know that I love the art of storytelling through film and media. My true dream is to bring that art into the mission field, or even more so, bring what God is doing around the world into the art of film. I am writing you today in hopes of your partnership with an opportunity to bring this dream to fruition, support missions on outreach to Nigeria and the Middle East, and grow in my personal relationship with the Lord by attending YWAM’s Discipleship Training School in January 2024. After being put on a waitlist and thinking I might not be able to go, I now have the opportunity to go. YWAM launched Brave Love, an all Women's DTS, for those of us on the waitlist. After more time in prayer, God told me the time is now and to move forward in faith with Brave Love in January.
What is YWAM?
YWAM is a Christian missions program focusing on raising up young people to know God and make Him known in all nations, all generations, and all spheres of influence. YWAM DTS is done in two phases, training/lecture and outreach.
The training phase is a 3 month school in Kona, Hawaii, where I will get the opportunity to learn from speakers all over the world, diving deep into who God is at a personal level.
Outreach:
The outreach phase is when we will be taking God’s love into the nations. We will be meeting both practical and spiritual needs. During outreach our whole school will be going to Nigeria to partner with the only other all women’s DTS full of 120 widowed women and their children. These women’s husbands were brutally murdered for standing in their Christian faith in a Muslim part of the country. After their husband’s death, many of them were forced into prostitution to provide for their families. Imagine your husband dying and then in the midst of your grieving and pain being forced to sell your body in order for you and your children to eat. This is the reality many of these women have faced and the DTS has helped these women and children out of these situations and is continuing to offer practical help and spiritual healing.
After Nigeria, my team will be going to the Middle East (I cannot specify which country for safety reasons). We will be partnering with ministries there to help refugees and take opportunities to spread the gospel.
Why YWAM?
After graduating high school, I spent two years interning at my church in Dallas, Church Eleven32. During that time, God began depositing a love for missions and film into my heart. After internship and graduating college with a degree in Communications, I wound up in Atlanta, with the privilege of working in the film industry. I have had the great opportunity of meeting many creatives in the film industry and it has reignited my desire to play a part of bridging the gap between missions and film. After spending time in prayer, my hope and dream in doing YWAM is not only to make connections in missions and film, but first and foremost, to know my God deeper. I truly believe this is going to be a great experience for me and that God is calling me into missions at this time for a reason. I would love for you to join me in my journey.
