We Were Threatened, Robbed & Left With Nothing – Help Us Save Our Rescue
We are a small, dedicated animal rescue team who just survived a nightmare — and we urgently need your help.
Earlier this year, we moved our rescue to a rural property in Kern County, California, offered by a man named Richard Skaggs (owner of Neenach Market and Hikertown in Neenach, CA). He promised it would be perfect for our animals, and that he would provide working water and electricity. We moved in, trusting his word — and began building kennels, hauling water, and doing everything ourselves to care for our dogs, cats, chickens, and other rescues.
But months later, he broke every promise — and turned violent.
What Happened:
• Richard Skaggs arrived with five men, one armed with a silver revolver, and threatened to kill us if we didn’t leave.
• He had already thrown many of our dogs and cats into the desert.
• He refused to let us take our chickens, claiming they were his.
• He stole everything:
• A 40-foot storage container filled with pallets of dog/cat food
• Kennels, crates, building materials, and tools
• Medical supplies, toys, blankets — everything we owned
• Local law enforcement refused to intervene, even after we were physically assaulted.
We spent four days, under the protection of a retired LAPD officer, trying to recover as many animals as we could and safely move them to a temporary location.
What We Need:
We lost everything except our commitment to these animals. We urgently need:
• Replacement food and water supplies
• Kennels, crates, and fencing
• Shelter construction materials
• Vet care and recovery funds
• A safe, permanent location to rebuild our rescue
• Legal fees to pursue justice
We Only Have 2 Months
Our current temporary space is only available for 60 days. If we don’t find a safe place and rebuild, these animals will be left with nowhere to go.
