Femme Noire Award 2020

Beloved community, we are each other’s business. In 2017 we established the Femme Noire Grant economically support our creative community. 2020 has brought us waves of grief, loss, anti-Blackness, and anxiety about the uncertain times ahead. COVID-19 has created more (economic, health, reproductive, mental wellness, etc.) barriers for our queer and trans family. This year, we extended our annual grant to a community-wide relief fund: unrestricted microgrants of $200-500. In this way, we hope to help as many people in our community as possible, especially those financially impacted by COVID-19, anti-Blackness, and organizers/activists for Black Liberation.

Our fully digital fundraising campaign will directly impact our community of Black womyn + femmes, catalyzing an awardee's skill development + creative practice. This unrestricted award can be used for anything in support of the awardee's work and practice: rent, supplies, venue rental, a class, therapy sessions, whatever you need to deepen their creative passions and overall wellbeing.

*****This award is for all Black femmes, queer womyn along the gender spectrum, trans and non-binary folk ages 21+ in the creative + cultural production industries. Applicants must reside in Chicago, IL. The application will be accepted on a rolling basis until funds raised have been disbursed.
