#yvonnestrong fight with thyroid cancer: Round 4
Four years ago in January of 2015 her battle began when found positive for Stage 3 Thyroid Cancer. She had a complete thyroidectomy, parathyroid, lymph node and tissue removal with radioactive iodine treatment. After several body scans the cancer showed successful in its removal and treatment. Then in April 2018, after a yearly sonogram, an area showed of concern and found another tumor. This time the tumor is in an area where diagnosis, treatment and removal is difficult and different than the first.
With the difference and seriousness of concern of this new found mass, body scans, MRI’s, PET scans and tests showed this is a very rare case of cancer and is very aggressive. Due to the tumor her airway became very limited and she needed a tracheotomy, which was placed in August 2018. She endured 7 weeks straight of direct, high dose amounts of radiation, multiple body scans and tests. In March 2019 the scans showed her cancer was killed!
Feeling some changes happening and needing to closely monitor her restricted airway a scan in April 2019 showed definite changes were happening in the tumor site. After a CT guided fine needle biopsy results came back that cancer is active again. From the findings Dr.’s feel strongly to refer her to the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas for a team of cancer Dr.s to access and analyze the next step in treating her very rare, aggressive type of cancer.
Yvonne is a warrior, fighter and honest, humble wife, mother, daughter and friend who knows she is not alone in this fight. This battle is a hard one to face, again, but it will not be fought without divine strength from God and a knowledge that He is aware of her and heaven is fighting along side of us all.
Future shows more tests, scans, possible surgeries, medications, therapies and traveling which will dramatically increases medical expenses on top of all that has accumulated over the past year. Our family has been truly blessed and touched by each act of kindness, generosity, concern and love. We sincerely appreciate any way you may be able to contribute to our family during Round 4.
