On December 18, 2018, Marco Villanueva lost his wife. Jackie Ortiz lost her mother.
Yvonne Gama-Villanueva, battled a very rare and aggressive sarcoma cancer for 32 months. In August, the family was celebrating a successful surgery and round of chemotherapy. It appeared that the doctors had effectively removed all of the cancer. The family was hopeful that this would be the procedure that would finally end this nightmare, once and for all.
Two months later, the doctors reported that the cancer was back and moving aggressively. They immediately scheduled the next surgery. Yvonne never made it to that surgery. The cancer had taken over her body and the doctors determined that there was nothing more they could do. As she transitioned to hospice, Marco held his beautiful wife in his arms. Jackie held onto her mother’s hands and looked into her eyes. And they lovingly said goodbye.
Anyone who knew Yvonne loved her. There was a humble fierceness that she possessed. She was brave, she was gentle, she was kind to everyone she met. She loved animals. She loved her LA Kings. But most of all, she loved her family. They were a unit of endless love and support.
This resilient family is now missing its core. Yvonne’s passing is tragic, not only for her loss of life, but also for the devastating effects on her family. The cost of the funeral services and the many bills that have accumulated have become a financial burden.
As we mourn the loss of this amazing, courageous, beautiful, strong woman, we are humbly requesting support for her family through this very difficult time. Though there is nothing that can take away the pain of Yvonne’s loss, our hope is that the financial support raised will make life a little easier on them. Your contributions will assist with providing education and opportunities for Yvonne’s daughter the way Yvonne would have intended.
