Patrick and Susan Hoffman and their two children, Cole and Abby, make their home in Tulsa, Ok. Susan is a 2nd grade teacher in the Broken Arrow School District and Patrick works at a Verizon store in Tulsa. They are a Christian family who attends Destiny Church in Broken Arrow.
Patrick has been afflicted with foot pain for many years and it’s gotten so bad his job is suffering and he has been unable to do the ordinary things with his family he’d love to do. Doctors say he needs immediate surgery to relieve osteotomies metatarsal and release contracture first metatarsophalangeal and possible calcaneal osteotomy. Patrick says, that’s medical jargon for a broken bone in one foot, stress fractures in the other with arthritis and requiring bone fusion and rods to be inserted.
Patrick was very active as a younger man, working on a farm, rock climbing and employed at a tennis school. He suspects much of the damage began during his hyperactivity years ago.
The operations will not be done together. He will require 6 weeks of recuperation after the first procedure then the second will be performed. That’s 3 months of work he will miss during which time he will earn only 40% of his base salary and nothing for lost bonuses and commissions.
Insurance requires a $715 deposit immediately. Then the family must pay $3300 out of pocket due to their high deductibles. They are hoping that the second operation will be paid in full by insurance once their out of pocket minimums are met.
Financially, the family is expecting at least a $4,000 hit for all medical expenses. And Patrick’s salary will be deeply undermined due to his absence.
The family is hoping to raise $7500 to pay for the surgery and to get them past the time Patrick will be out of work.
