As some of you know, Shawn was in a horrific motorcycle accident on Friday morning, May 31st. As he was on his way to work, a truck, pulling out of a gas station pulled right into Shawn, throwing him over the hood of the truck and onto the road. This left Shawn unconscious. A couple that witnessed the accident contacted 911 and stayed with Shawn while the ambulance came. One of Shawn’s very close work buddies happen to be passing by and stopped at the accident not knowing it was Shawn at first and when he did he immediately called Shawn’s boss and that’s when I for the scariest phone call of my life. In that moment I had no idea if Shawn was alive or dead. Once I got to the hospital they told me he was “ok” and was in X-ray and CT.
The results of those X-rays and CT were anything but “ok”. BUT HE WAS ALIVE! Shawn suffered a broken clavicle, broken femur, both broken wrists, broken breast bone, broken toe, small fractures in his lower back and a small brain bleed.
This all sounds so awful, and it is, trust me, he’s in a lot of pain, BUT he is alive and that’s what matters.
Shawn will be off work for several months and will have to go through lots of physical therapy. This is going to be really hard for the both of us as Shawn won’t be able to do anything on his own since both wrists will be in a cast. We will get through it though, because that’s what we do.
He is devastated about his bike. I told him we would get a better one.
As of right now it’s looking like the driver of the truck (not the owner) or the owner of the truck have insurance. Which means that the only coverage we have is our insurance which pays out $25,000, the physical/occupational therapy that Shawn will need before coming home will be $20,000 AFTER his insurance. This doesn’t include the doctors that will see him while he’s in that facility nor does it include any of the surgeries and hospital stay.
