A little over 5 years ago, my closest friend Chris Anderson and I were chatting after a round of golf when he told me he was going to see a doctor about a small lump that was forming in his neck. Little did we know then that he was in the beginning stages of a battle for his life with cancer… a battle that he absolutely refuses to lose. Chris is now facing one of the only remaining treatment options in his continued fight and he and his family can really use your help - which is why we've built this campaign so that he can focus on fighting for a chance to find normal again without having to worry about finances/bills throughout this ordeal.
Chris, a single dad of two grade-school children, was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) in January of 2016. He started chemotherapy soon after and had many years of mostly effective treatments managing his cancer, until recently. Unfortunately, after only 3 months of remission since his last treatment (Feb. 2021), his cancer returned in “aggressive CLL” form and his doctors determined that he needs an immediate bone marrow transplant. Even the most ideal treatment path for a bone marrow transplant will be a major uphill battle. At a minimum, for the next 5-6 months, Chris will have to put "normal" on hold while confined to hospital rooms/beds and then constant care at home. During this time he cannot work and must focus on recovery/healing. Ideally, with this procedure, the cancer will go into remission within this timeframe. But we understand that this process and recovery could (and likely will) take much longer than the ideal.
This is where you can help…. As Chris continues his long and challenging journey to remission, we created this Go Fund Me account for him to help with medical expenses, meal plans, transportation and all the things that will not be covered by insurance, in addition to the bills that continue to accumulate while he isn’t able to work. Any contribution will help Chris on his road to recovery and help lighten the stress for him and his children.
For those unfamiliar with bone marrow transplants, the process will require a hospital stay of 3-6 weeks and a minimum of 100 additional days of constant supervision once he’s back home. Chris will be unable to work during these many months of recovery and will be doing his best to survive on short-term disability, his accrued PTO, and what little savings he has left after the past 5 years of never-ending medical bills.
